Myanmar is a country which has inspired me personally more than most others. Internationally much noise is made about how the country is run although before anyone points any fingers it is of course wise to remember the old adage: Judge not lest ye be judged. This is not something which I say to excuse any wrongdoings, simply to highlight to anyone who may like to criticise an entire nation that before we do it is wise to maybe present an example of a nation which is not only run better, but is also responsible for LESS pain and suffering around the world. When global economics are taken into account this is a much harder thing to do than you may initially think.
The main thing we should recognise about Myanmar in my opinion is that as a nation the country certainly does LESS to harm our planet, the environment and humanity as a whole than many of the rich, industrialised nations of the world. The people of Myanmar as a whole are truly inspirational in every sense that I can think of. They are warm, generous, positive, wise, open, welcoming and able to weather the toughest of storms, literally and metaphorically, with strength, courage and refusal to bow to cynicism which we can certainly all learn from.
It is worth noting that the World Bank has not approved any funding to Myanmar since 1987 according to their own website.
Small grass roots charities are without question in my view the most effective way to help the poorest people in the country to work their way out of poverty.
